Diabetes Mellitus (DM)
Current estimates indicate 12% of the population in the united states have diabetes mellitus which means they have elevated blood sugar levels. This is very important because high blood sugar is often asymptomatic and often patients first find out the blood sugar is high when they have a heart attack or stroke or find they have kidney damage or develop an infection because of weak immunity. Diabetes has become more common because of the abundance of ultra refined processed foods and starches and sugars and sweets.Sugars or sweets or other obvious sources of high blood sugar especially soda pop but many patients often are not aware that artificial sweeteners also contribute to diabetes and weight gain and there are many sweets like high fructose corn syrup which are mixed into processed foods that you buy in any packaged goods at the store which resulted in patient eating sugary foods without realizing it.Most people do not read the ingredients on the back of the label of the foods they buy at the store so they are not aware that they are getting high sugar levels in their food they buy at the store
We Spend time in educating our patients understanding food and metabolism and how sugar affects the body and is part of the body's metabolism. We also educated patient on proper nutrition and trying to change her diet to improve blood sugar levels. We also educated patient on incorporating exercise programs to lower blood sugar. If blood sugar levels still continue to run high then we do guide patient's on different medication treatment options in combination is to lower blood sugar and try to tailor what is the best fit for each patient to lower blood sugar levels to a good safer range To lower their risk of complications
